yes well I have no idea who are you, Idmusic, because I didn’t have the opportunity to meet - at least remotely - anyone with such a name.
So my music critics is more directed towards the superstar of the video, Kris Hovel, or whatever you spell that name. To put it in a more readable manner - there are a number of people who play WAY better than he does (in fact, I was lucky enough not to attend any party where somebody played worse than he does), and all of them are much more humble and down to earth, so this is the point of the super star critics.
Now ppl with no eyesight problems wearing fake glasses - that’s just pathetic, especially when the same glasses are worn by everybody. And then there is this psychological stuff about hiding behind them, but too much to write, so whatever. it’s good to those who are selling them, though, big up for the business idea behind. oh, whatever.

Oh, so much flaming here! But, heh, Jurga put it nice about ravers vs. clubbers - I guess I’m a raver then :) I remember back in the mid/end 90’s the tag “clubbers” was kind of OK (it was quite used in PTUCH that time, f.e.). However, later on the meaning somehow shifted, and I realised that I have little or nothing to do with all those posers who proudly reffered to themselves as clubbers - just too much showing off, self-indulgence, shallowness, trendiness etc etc. But it’s not so much about tags and words, of course, it’s not even about underground vs. commercial whatsoever, it’s more about the attitude - just be true to yourself and others, let the music/skills speak about you instead of self-praising…
However, I cannot really agree to Gosh’s dichotomy concerning the age. I think the attitude/taste is not so much related to age as such - there are so many youngsters digging good music, and there are so many my generation (or older) people with totally crappy sense of music.
Said this and even though I am quite sceptical about all those trend-hoppers (first it proghouse, then it goes electrohouse, then minimal, now it’s deep- or tech-house…), everybody has its own rights to have different way of seeing things and of having fun… If you’re not happy with some vibes, you should attend your kind of parties, with your kind of people or, as Gosh has put it, party at home. Personally for me, it’s quite related to DJing, too. Now when I’ve become older and somewhat less ambitious, plus playing records is not a matter of money, I really try to avoid parties/clubs which I know that I wouldn’t enjoy or I would be forced to plat some diffrent stuff just to please the crowd… So, yes, for me people that I play for really matter, ‘coz it’s largely about sharing.
But back to the Earth. I really cannot blame S:G for selling out or just making programmation more varied - perhaps sometimes it works better, sometimes worse, but, hey, does anyone is naive enough that nowadays a club in Latvia could support itself from just focusing on a very niche/undergorund music? Especially if all the “right” people are too old/lazy/eccentric to move their asses over to parties, instead prefering raving at home?

I don’t know if your comment “to feel The Star and tell to fuck off to anyone who tries to criticize you, but for God’s sake, listen to what you play at least once objectively. And in a sober state of mind, that would be even more important” was directed to me in particular, but I always take critic as long as it’s constructive and I play sober at nearly all of my gigs..music is a state of mind like you said and not a state of how many % of alcohol in the blood..

yes well I have no idea who are you, Idmusic, because I didn’t have the opportunity to meet - at least remotely - anyone with such a name.
So my music critics is more directed towards the superstar of the video, Kris Hovel, or whatever you spell that name. To put it in a more readable manner - there are a number of people who play WAY better than he does (in fact, I was lucky enough not to attend any party where somebody played worse than he does), and all of them are much more humble and down to earth, so this is the point of the super star critics.
Now ppl with no eyesight problems wearing fake glasses - that’s just pathetic, especially when the same glasses are worn by everybody. And then there is this psychological stuff about hiding behind them, but too much to write, so whatever. it’s good to those who are selling them, though, big up for the business idea behind. oh, whatever.
And yes, you are totally right, i’m spilling out my frustrations. Because you know me very very well, I assume - contrary to me knowing you, as referred several times in your comment.

Oh, so much flaming here! But, heh, Jurga put it nice about ravers vs. clubbers - I guess I’m a raver then :) I remember back in the mid/end 90’s the tag “clubbers” was kind of OK (it was quite used in PTUCH that time, f.e.). However, later on the meaning somehow shifted, and I realised that I have little or nothing to do with all those posers who proudly reffered to themselves as clubbers - just too much showing off, self-indulgence, shallowness, trendiness etc etc. But it’s not so much about tags and words, of course, it’s not even about underground vs. commercial whatsoever, it’s more about the attitude - just be true to yourself and others, let the music/skills speak about you instead of self-praising…
However, I cannot really agree to Gosh’s dichotomy concerning the age. I think the attitude/taste is not so much related to age as such - there are so many youngsters digging good music, and there are so many my generation (or older) people with totally crappy sense of music.
Said this and even though I am quite sceptical about all those trend-hoppers (first it proghouse, then it goes electrohouse, then minimal, now it’s deep- or tech-house…), everybody has its own rights to have different way of seeing things and of having fun… If you’re not happy with some vibes, you should attend your kind of parties, with your kind of people or, as Gosh has put it, party at home. Personally for me, it’s quite related to DJing, too. Now when I’ve become older and somewhat less ambitious, plus playing records is not a matter of money, I really try to avoid parties/clubs which I know that I wouldn’t enjoy or I would be forced to plat some diffrent stuff just to please the crowd… So, yes, for me people that I play for really matter, ‘coz it’s largely about sharing.
But back to the Earth. I really cannot blame S:G for selling out or just making programmation more varied - perhaps sometimes it works better, sometimes worse, but, hey, does anyone is naive enough that nowadays a club in Latvia could support itself from just focusing on a very niche/undergorund music? Especially if all the “right” people are too old/lazy/eccentric to move their asses over to parties, instead prefering raving at home?
