FOXY MANDY

Well, this is making enough buzz, and deserves a post.

It happened a few weeks ago. Girls, who just finished their DJ course at Ritma Institus came to S:G to celebrate. It was a Saturday night. DJ Moro was plating. At one moment he wanted to take a rest a bit, so he asked Didzis, if he can take care of decks for a while. Didzis knew Madara (Foxy’s real name) and forward this duty to her. And then she started to play, not even with her CDs. And that was a turning point: suddenly the girl was playing the right stuff, at the right place to the right audience… and everybody loved it. And she is turning 18 in few weeks. We all were waiting for fresh emotions on this scene, and surprisingly they came from Dobeles pagasts.
Now Mandy says, last Saturday’s set changed her life and opened the eyes for new perspectives. Ah, thanks! This is one of the best things we can do.
Cimo and Oga did great job too!  But this post is about Mandy. Rock!

Es vakar 1. reizi atteicu pasākuma piedāvājumu..un pietam tik ātri
Man piedāvāja uzspēlēt ”Ladys night” pasācienā Post klubā/Jelgavā.. un man būtu jāspēlē popsu,rnb..house.. a es automātiski pateicu, nē! Un, ka vēl ir daudz citas DJ meitenes!:)

es ar to gribēju pateikt, ka 6dienas pasākums Space garāžā kardināli izmainīja manu dzīvi!!! mh!mh! :)
Es vienkārši nezinu kā lai to apraksta.. spēlēju visu vakaru.. tech, minimal, techno.. un taas sajuutas..fīlings.. cita pasale..man rodas tāda sajūta,ka līdz šim neesmu dzīvojusi..
man pat viens prasīja ko esmu salietojusies..es atbildēju,ka mūziku (un jāgerīti) :D
ahhhh.. mīlu to vietu…miilu cilvēkus, kas uz turieni iet ballēties, mīlu to sajūtu,kuru nevaru aprakstīt!!! :))))

    Ar Cieņu

hey foxy, i saw you dancing the other night and enjoyed the positive vibe you were broadcasting. but what a surprise it was to see you replacing the DJ at the decks and sending some nicely mixed tunes out! sadly i missed your mix on the “foxy mandy” night, but i hope you become a resident DJ soon and i’ll hear you and see you again :) cheers up!

    power to the people.
it takes time to figure out what is eclectic and quality, and what is not.
to figure that out, one needs new, different things (visuals, sounds, texts) to compare with his previous experience. and that is the only way how to figure out what fits you as a Dj or Vj.
18 years, with only a year of Dj’ing - that can give you very good technics, but its as simple as that - your musical taste grows togather with you.
so - the more opportunities to hear and play something new and different from Latvijas Radio 2, the faster one can develop his/her taste and move away from junk-pop towards some more eclectic stuff.
    grok that.

well, I was a witness too. What can I say… The music itself was totally not my cup of tea (but my name is Snobo, so never mind). BUT! I wish that our more experienced and seasoned DJs played their records with THAT enthusiasm, switching mnml tracks THAT quick, and - technically speaking - used mixer+crossfader more inventively, just like Foxy did that Saturday night. In other words, I always thought that if the music played is tracky and mnml, the tracks should be treated as small atomic blocks and DJ should PLAY WITH THEM, not just play them one after another. Then even boring stuff becomes entertaining. Again, I heard Madara doing just that, and that made by jaw dropped to the S:G’s floor ;)

So - respect to Foxy’s skills and enthusiasm. And of course, I join d. in regards to developing a taste and gaining knowledge in MUSIC, not only the technical skills. If Foxy will do that - she eventually will be a killer DJ.

Foxy, you must remember, you live here - Latvia. Latvia music taste is sooo baaaddddd….peoples want : Britney, Shakira, Madonna , Lady Gaga, Tiesto………ok you can play techno ( but reality, you didn’t play techno, but tech house….ok nevermind….story is about that: where you can play this music style in Latvia? which clubs? Which parties?…….in Latvia, we hav’t so much places whith this music style..

story is about that: DJ must know, must have very much music styles…especcially new DJ, who have experience only one year….You have talent. Your musical taste grows with you.
    Good luck.

Thanks to Madara for doing great job, but also remember that it is also a Ritma Instituts teachers who taught technical things :)

    Keep the vibe going!

Technical things come to shade in comparison to good aesthetic taste for music. It is precisely where love is, but not the technicalities of any sorts. It’s funny to hear some boys say: “hey, this bassline.. is it a sawtooth or a square wave, what do you think? how did they make it?” and girls say: “this piece of music makes me want to share my love, it brings best memories of the past i ever had..”. i vote for the girls who often feel the music better!
