VINYL IS BACK IN TOWN

Hola!
Riga have seen a few attempts to open “real” record shop. None of them survived, unfortunately. While paying respect to those who tried, we welcome 33/45 - new record shop in Riga. New shop claims to cover a good selection of modern dance music. With no doubt we’re going to support this important detail in Riga’s club scene.

So, this Friday, February 8., Space:Garage is hosting 33/45 Record store Opening Party.
Featuring special guests from Mannheim, not the last city on German dance music map. Mannheim, among other things is famous by hosting Timewarp festival, one of the largest electronic music events in Europe.
On Friday we have two of Timewarp residents - Nekes and Jay Edit. Nekes is also known for his Oslo records - house/techno label, which he is running together with Federico Molinari and which was voted “best newcomer label 2007″ in Germany. Supported by our resident DJ - Kone.
So, that is what gonna happen this Friday.
Flyer (as usual) is here.

The shop itself will be located on Dzirnavu 43 and will share the space with Ripo Skateshop.
Working hours, starting from Friday, February 8.:
monday till friday: 11.00-19.00

saturday: 11.00-16.00

See you soon and have a nice week!

    Jep! Amazing sets we heard!

And a bit of sunday philosophical toughts..:)
I was always saying that the main quality of a good DJ is his taste.
Now i can add “artistic bravery” to this.
I mean, you can feel quite comfortable, playing out minimal set, consisting of all new/half-year-new releases..
But another thing is to mix some old, cheasy, house or even pop tune with your minimal set and .. it just fits perfectly.
I bet you all have seen this from famous DJ;s.. Suddenly.. in the middle of perfect techno set, there is some 80;s song or even rock..
You kind of need to have balls to do that, you know.. Nekes and Jay Edit definitely got them. Ok, it wasnt exactly pop tunes, but it was a very tasty mixture of modern sound with some amazingly fresh sounding old house and techno records..
I would say this is the sound of today. (bearing in mind all that house renessaince, that happening right now)..
Take care of new releases, but dig some old stuff and try to mix it in. For example, some early trance or house B-side remixes from 1994, which you thought is useless shit, can sound amazingly cool right now.
    Be creative.

And here is the good example.
DJ mix from mega-respected and talented irish producer Donnacha Costello. its all about that.

There’s not so much impression in my words to describe THAT set!.. Just surreal adventure in outer space! And that unbelievable tune from Dutch’s creatures Zedmitry said about… It’s like flashback from those days and parties that still untouchable in our memories. Kind of psychedelia that’s seduced us at once we heard it sounds first time… I couldn’t even made few steps to take some water! Thanx Garage and Record Store again and let’s made those words from Kollektiv Turmstrasse t-shirt (Vynil kills mp3) our future! 8)
